Lucky to play Shostakovich with these two great guys - and finally to be able to erase the very Danish and much hated mezzoforte, that former colleagues insisted would improve one of the most important chamber works from the 20th century.
Having collaborated with major composers from Eastern Europe and the former Sovjet, I have learned some fundamental differences in the perception of music.
When a Danish person sees a crescendo from f to ff, he will think “I better lower the dynamics one or two levels in order to save energy for the nachspiel” - while a Russian would think “I must give more and fight at any cost, otherwise I will be sent to Siberia!"
